UPDATE! I fixed (for the most part) the slipping high E string. See pinned comment. I just received Yngwie Malmsteen's Fender Stratocaster with scalloped frets this morning. Before recording this video, the only thing I did with it was tune it to D# -- I purposely avoided fretting any notes, so that you could see my raw reaction while recording. Here are some spoilers about what I found: The GOOD: 1. The scalloped frets posed absolutely 0 difficulty for me in terms of rhythm and chords. This is a common concern for many players, but I was very surprised. I'm not sure what string gauge these came shipped with from sweetwater (I assume 9's), but the string tension was strong enough to where I didn't push any notes flat. 2. It sounds awesome, as you would expect. I played it going through a Kemper profile with some YJM profiles. 3. The neck feels great. I was worried about the scalloped frets hurting my fretting hand (near the high E) as I slide up the neck, but that wasn't an issue at all. The BAD: 1. The high E string of death. In the video, you'll see I struggle with it slipping off the neck if I did any sort of pull-offs. I've since researched this, and there's a few fixes, such as installing a different bridge. I'll report back with what I decide to do. --------------------------------------------------- ✔ https://www.facebook.com/slantaudio ✔ https://twitter.com/SLANT17848519 I run another channel where I've taught millions how to design and code, check er' out: http://youtube.com/user/designcourse Chat with other guitarists at the guitar discord server: https://discord.gg/mtmfWzQ
